Thank you for looking in on my website, the home of Old Crow Books.
I was born in Cambridge, England, and grew up the middle of three children in a family that was, in many ways, typical of the 1950s and ’60s.
In 1967, I began, what was then, the route into becoming a teacher, studying at Weymouth Teacher Training College, and forging a career as a primary school teacher over the ensuing twenty-five years. Following that, I was fortunate to become a deputy-headteacher at a time when education was changing rapidly, via the introduction of the National Curriculum and its new assessment programmes. This was also the time when
computers were being introduced into primary schools, so we were faced with enormous learning curves. Getting to grips with all this led to a few years as an Advisory Teacher for Assessment, and then to a role as an Education Officer for Special Needs in Suffolk. Retiring early from teaching due to health difficulties, I eventually focused on something totally different, which in turn led to an opportunity to work on the technical side of re-creating the lost craft of Lowestoft Porcelain.
